Mission Statement

VisionCure is a student-run nonprofit corporation with goals to prevent common eye diseases in the communities and thus improving the vision of all ages. We particularly focus on the vulnerable populations with poor socioeconomic status, where essential eye care services are lacking. Through advanced technology development and effective patient education, VisionCure strives to ensure a world where preventative eye care is available to everyone at low cost and allow them to have better vision and reach their full life potentials.

The Problem

Current diagnosis of common eye diseases requires expensive appointments with eye doctors, which always causes significant delay with no proper diagnosis and treatment. For populations with poor socioeconomic status, many eye diseases remain under-diagnosed and in-adequately treated. As a result, these vulnerable patients experience poor vision and sometimes lead to permeant vision impairments.

The Goal

To provide easy to use tools for in-home, fast evaluation of eye conditions. Our initial focus groups are senior, low-income residents with vision difficulties, particularly with dry eye diseases (DED).

The Impact of Dry Eye

Dry eye is the most common eye diseases with an estimated prevalence up to 50% of the global population (1). Dry eye patients usually experience blurry vision with dry, burning feeling in their eyes, thus significantly affects their quality of life. Currently, there is no effective treatment of dry eye disease, early diagnosis is the key for dry eye prevention and treatment.
